Five Tips To Gain More Self Discipline!

Freedom is discipline and discipline is necessary to create options so you don’t have to settle and feel restricted.

Every year, I usually have something planned for New Year’s Eve, but this year was a little different. I didn’t want to go out and over pay for drinks to bring in the New Year. I simply wanted to be by myself and reflect on my highs and lows of 2015. I wanted to plan on how I could make 2016 an even better year. While sipping on Merlot, I started pondering in my head “how could I accelerate and bring my goals to the next level in my life?”  Nothing came to mind so I just started writing down everything that I’m grateful for in my life. This exercise allowed me to be thankful and satisfied with what I already have in life. Rhonda Byrne said it perfectly, “Gratitude will shift you to a higher frequency, and you will attract much better things.”

A couple weeks into the new year, two words came to my mind ‘Self Discipline’. I have to develop more self-discipline strategies. It’s like a light bulb lit up in my head and I found the answer to help me achieve my personal goals on a greater level.   From a young age I was always organized and strategic with most decisions I made in life.  I came from a background where I did not have rules and I could basically do what I want, knowing that I wasn’t going to be disciplined for my actions.  I never had a desire to do anything that was going to get me in trouble or impact my future so I never had a problem in that department. With that being said, I made my own rules and I did everything in my power to do things the right way so I could break the mold in my family. I knew I needed a lot of improvement in that area because it was something I chose to teach myself, which wasn’t always an easy task.

I did a lot of research on how I could have more self-discipline. This included listening to motivational videos as well as reading books and articles. Through my research I realized that self-discipline is critical if you want to achieve a task to take you to the next place in your life. Tips that I have begun incorporating in my life that have helped me stay on task include:

1.     Exercise for at least 30 minutes to an hour. This gives you mental and physical strength to tackle your day.

2.     Remove temptations and distractions to stay focus.

3.     Don’t wait for it to “feel right” because then you will never do it.

4.     Buy an agenda book (planner) and stick with your plan.

5.     Learn to forgive yourself and move forward. The longer you’re off your game, the harder it is to keep going in a positive direction.
